One might think a group studying Historical swordsmanship would frown on choreography (many such groups do). However, WSTR looks at choreography as another opportunity to promote an interest in western forms of swordsmanship. Through our fights, we try to include a large number of accurate motions, sword handling, and footwork, while creating a dramatic fight that can fit a story and the characters involved.

WSTR can design fights in several styles, including two handed sword, sword and shield, and rapier. We enjoy creating a fight that suits the story being told. We design and perform fights using wooden swords, even though metal blunted swords are available. We find the safety of wood allows us to design fights that can be performed faster and with more confidence, allowing the story of the fight to show through. When performed well, a fight seen can be gripping enough to hide the fact that the weapons are made of wood.
